  Sheepskin Footwear Care
Care instructions

Our Ultimate Sheepskin Boots range are designed primarily for outdoor use. Although sheepskin offers some protection against getting wet, we highly recommend using our Sheepskin Protector & Water Repellent. This also helps protect against a variety of stains and is suitable for both sheepskin and suede leather footwear.

Our other boots and slippers with hard soles can be used for both indoor and light to moderate outdoor use, depending on each style.

You should avoid getting any sheepskin footwear heavily soiled. Light soiling or stains can be removed with a damp cloth.

Washing
For an occasional comprehensive cleaning you can wash the sheepskin boots or slippers by hand in cold or warm (not hot) water. Do not put the footwear in a washing machine.

Use our Sheepskin Shampoo/Wool Wash or a mild hand washing detergent that is suitable for washing wool.

Squeeze the water and dirt out of the skin and when finished, remove excess water with paper towels or an old hand towel.

If required reshape by stuffing with dry paper towels.

Allow to dry naturally indoors or in the shade, do NOT dry in sunlight or direct heat as this will damage the skin and cause it to wrinkle and lose its suppleness.

See our main website for additional sheepskin washing and general care instructions.

Sheepskin footwear benefits

All our slippers and boots are made from 100% genuine sheepskin. Double-faced sheepskins are used which have been tanned with a coloured suede leather finish on one side and the dense wool pile on the other which has been shorn to a uniform length.

Some companies offer "sheepskin" footwear consisting of a synthetic material or hide that is backed with wool or a synthetic fibre woven into a mesh. This won't have the benefits of genuine sheepskin and probably won't last as long.

To tell the difference, the sheepskin wool pile should be dense but smooth and soft to the touch, wool or a synthetic is coarser.

If it doesn't say it's sheep skin, it probably isn't. Insist on genuine sheepskin!

Specific benefits of sheepskin footwear:
  • The sheepskin wool pile can absorb up to 33% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, therefore problems with sweaty feet or foot odour can be reduced.
  • Further, the lambskin fibres in the sheepskin boots wicks moisture away from your feet, keeping them drier and therefore more comfortable.
  • The wool fibres of natural lambskin are one of nature's best insulators, the wool fleece also permits air circulation, allowing your feet to breathe.
  • The millions of air pockets inside the wool trap warmth.
  • The footwear, especially the sheepskin innersoles/insoles, mould to the shape of your feet.
  • Sheepskin footwear is hand washable (see above).
